Getting into the adult industry?

Having a problem trying to figure out all the different ways to promote and make money?

There’s everything out there from free sites to pay sites, top lists to link lists and so much more, making it difficult to choose the path you think will be the best for you. I’m going to touch base on the link lists option.

What is a link list?

Basically, it is a site that allows other webmasters to get their sites linked in a directory. Simple and not too intense to run. When you get a good size chunk of links in your database you can start requiring a link from their sites back to your link list. This increases both sites link relevance according to Google. Also, this provides traffic to your link list site. You can then filter that traffic through your links and ad links to the appropriate places to either further increase your traffic or better yet, put checks in the mail to you.

That is all it really is, and now let's go into the specifics.

Link lists are a simple way to build up a sweet traffic base for yourself. How do ya do that you ask. Its simple. Start with friends, or hit boards and let folks know that you’ve opened a new link list careful about the board's spam policies). Forget about having a set limit of submissions per day for a while until you’ve built up a nice selection of links. Until that time, use sponsor links to make your page look full. Accept tons of links and don’t be too picky at first. Of course, if something really stinks or has illegal content, by all means, can it! However, while you’re building that huge collection of links, you do need to curb your pickiness until you reach your target. Your target level totally depends on you, how big you want to make your link list and if you have scripts to do most of the work.

You’re still wondering how that gets you traffic. That too, my friend is simple but time consuming. The important rule for submissions to your site is having them fly your button with other sites’ buttons too. Thus, having them submit their galleries to your site and others, you’ll receive more hits from other sites. Of course, submitting your link list to others is a good idea as well.

Another major point of using Link Lists is for SE (search engines) rankings. It basically boils down to link popularity and page ranking. The more relevant pages you have linking to you and you to them, the better off you are. It’s a two way street. SEs absolutely love seeing hits coming to and from your site and vice versa. Consequently, the Search Engines place more weight on those links than just a list of links with one-way traffic or none at all.

Make sure to keep your link list stocked with links to your sites, since you want to reap the benefits of the traffic too, not just the other folks submitting to you. Take FULL advantage of the traffic coming to the site.

Speaking of taking advantage of things be sure not to take advantage of the surfers. Happy surfers will come back time and time again, especially if they have found something they like, but screw with them and they’ll be sure to put your site in their ‘do not visit’ list.

The major key to success in this industry doesn’t really hang on what you do or what path you take but rather your knowledge and ability to get that needed knowledge. Don’t ever think that this trek to having your very own porn empire will be easy or fast. It is hard work and many give up. However, if you’re willing to burn more than a few nights not to mention a few bucks, and have a failure is not an option attitude, it does pay off!

Now that the theory is covered you need to decide how to make one. You can manually make and edit your link list. Have Webmaster's email you their links and then you fire up your favorite HTML editor and add the ones you approve of. This is obviously a lot of work and will only get more so as you grow in popularity. This method has some drawbacks. Starting with the time spent doing the edits and reviews, but that is really the least of the concern. The big problem is that sites go down and some Webmaster's cheat. You need to check all your links periodically for down or changed sites and then be able to remove them quickly. By hand, this is a major career. A better option is to get a script to control the links. There are free ones available but they offer both limited features and reliability. The best bet is to go with a professionally built link list script with the features you need and want. Also, paid scripts usually offer something that free scripts never do: support. If you are a coder, support is not a big deal, but if you are not then when the damn thing just quits you are left with scratching your head. Consider your choices and budget wisely because changing scripts can be quite traumatic in the future.
